Psychostimulants 2020: An Update
Dr. Richard Rawson, professor of psychiatry at the Vermont Center on Behavior and Health, joins us to discuss the rapidly increasing use rates and overdose deaths associated with methamphetamine and cocaine. His presentation will review the new information on medical/psychiatric effects of stimulants as well as clinical challenges presented by individuals who use stimulants. Current protocols for addressing acute medical/psychiatric conditions will be described along with evidence-based behavioral/psychosocial strategies and pharmacotherapies that are currently considered promising.

There are three learning objectives from this lecture. Participants will be able to: 1) explain the current epidemiology of cocaine and methamphetamine in the US; 2) describe the most common clinical challenges in treatment people with stimulant use disorders; and 3) review and discuss the current evidence-based practices for the treatment of individuals with stimulant use disorder.
